We all know there's a new Sigur Ros album in the pipeline for next year right? Right.Do people know Jonsi is working on a live show based on the How To Train Your Dragon soundtrack? We're not sure. Someone we know told us that someone they know has been working on it in Reykjavik. It's all a bit chinese whispery at the moment, but it sounds rather exciting indeed.
In the meantime (and that makes it sound like what follows is filler - it is ANYTHING but), there is new music from Jonsi on they way. The Icelandic frontman has been working with director Cameron Crow on music for his forthcoming movie We Bought The Zoo, which looks OK we suppose, and the first new track from the soundtrack is now online in YouTube form.
'Gathering Stories' sounds an awful lot like Jonsi's solo album, and the happier end of that, and since his debut solo release Go was one of the best albums of 2010, all new material in that vein is more than welcomed.
Jonsi 'Gathering Stories
Amazing. AMAZING. It makes us feel better about everything.
The We Bought The Zoo soundtrack will also include second new Jonsi track, 'AEvin Endar', plus reworkings of solo tracks 'Sinking Friendships' and 'Go Do', plus Sigur Ros calling-card, 'Hoppipolla'.
It's Jónsi, not Sigur Rós, who is working for HTTYD, for some arena shows. He works (or worked) with Basil Hogios, an australian musician. And probably with other musicians, orchestra, choir... He is not the only composer for this score, also John Powell. From what I read, these shows will take place first in Australia/New Zealand, then in the US. An yes Sigur Rós are working on their next album, for a release in spring 2012 and a tour in the fall 2012, if nothing changes of course :)
ReplyDeleteNot so chinese-whispery after all then!
ReplyDeleteJonsi/Sigur Ros - either way, it's all very exciting indeed. Except for the part where you didn't mention 'UK' in the list of places the tour will visit...
