Lissie is definitely releasing the wrong single

We've not mentioned Lissie on RobotPigeon before on account of her being a drippy bag who plays the guitar and sings maudlin old songs that don't make us want to dance.

However, being a drippy bag who play the guitar and singing maudlin old songs is not necessarily a bad thing (see Martha Wainwright), because we think Lissie is rather wonderful not only in a 'folky, country and western wonderful' sort of way, but also in the 'regular wonderful' sort of way.

We don't think that 'Cuckoo' is the right single for her to be releasing though, and we're judging this largely on the fact that so many of her other songs are much better. 'Cuckoo' is far too Shania Twain for our liking, and while she's releasing tracks aimed so squarely at Radio Two she may as well be launching them from a catapault at Terry Wogan's bedroom window, her truly stunning work is being left squandered on her album. And by this we mean the likes of 'Everywhere I Go', 'Little Lovin'' and particularly the truly beautiful 'Oh Mississippi' - which is most certainly our favourite female alt/folk/country and western song of all time apart from some of Dolly Parton's.

However, 'Cuckoo' has it's charms also. It is far from terrible, it's just far too 'Taylor Swift'.
