Nowadays, when any old tosser with Garageband and the internet can upload music, a band/artist needs to stand head and shoulders (and not just use the brand of shampoo) above the rest to have any chance of 'making it'. That means that having good songs is only the tip of the iceberg (and not just the variety of lettuce) for an emerging act.A new act needs to have a great name, an image, an attitude, at least one attractive band member to appear at the front of all the press photos, and then we'll listen to the music. So it is with great pleasure we can announce that the artists formerly known as Natalie Portman's Shaved Head have finally taken the advice we gave them a year ago and changed their bloody name.
What have they changed it to? *taps fingers on the table to imitate a half arsed drum roll* ... Bright Futures. *deflates a balloon* Ok, it's not groundbreaking, and sounds mildly like a chain of cheap paint and tile warehouses, but it's leagues above Natalie Portman's ohmygodthisnameissolongandirrlevant Shaved Head.
Plus it was an excuse for them to make this promo video, which, unlike most 'aren't we quirky' promo videos, actually made us do a 'LOL':
And in even better news Bright Futures have not changed any of their music. It's still, catchy, upbeat, danceable and wryly ironic without being disposable. There's a new track, 'Dog Eared Summer', that you can get for totally, completely and utterly free here. In short we LOVE Bright Futures. Natalie who?
