The new Valerie mixtape: the best 50 minutes of your day - perhaps week (we don't know what else you have planned)

When it comes to ultra-cool French pop music record labels, the name on everyone's lips is first and foremost Kitsune. However, perhaps hovering somewhere around the tonsils or that wiggly thing at the back of the throat is (or really should be) fellow French collective Valerie, who are without question responsible for the most warmest, most uplifting electro-pop-dance music on the planet right now.

But while Kitsune have made their name with angular, cutting-edge pop music, Valerie's approach is altogether more 'shiny'. Their latest mixtape (free download link shortly, please bear with us) is the perfect example of how incredible the recent resurgence in 80s-influenced pop music can be. Their Indian Summer Mixtape is both a warm reminder of lazy August evenings in the park drinking warm cider and a serious kick in the teeth reminding us that we've got six months of bleak misery ahead in the UK before we can even think about having a drink outdoors again. Thanks 'the French'.

Indian Summer mixtape starts off subtle, with soulful cuts such as Jupiter's cover of 'Mama Used To Say' and Pacific!'s mixtape regular 'Hold Me' (Breakbot remix) but by the time Diamond Cut sticks his oar in, with his remix of 'I Like Watching You' by Cinnamon Chasers, it's proof that the 80s revival has kicked up some serious dancefloor action as much as it has slices of slick, shoulder-padded nostalgia.

However, we'll be totally honest, from the moment the Grum remix of Friendly Fires 'Skeleton Boy' kicks in, the shit well and truly hits the proverbial fan and we're into Best Mixtape of the Year territory.
